Alira
Callaghan

Alira Callaghan is a multidisciplinary artist living between Perth and Singapore. Their work focusses on relationships to the nonhuman predominantly in the context of matter and objects—investigating through installation, sculpture, video, artist books and site specific occurences.

Recently completing a practice-led research PhD through Curtin University titled Process as Outcome: Methods of engagement with the nonhuman object/thing/material, Alira extended these interests to consider how art as research is conducted in the context of new materialist positionings with the nonhuman, and where the outcome of such a project sits in relation to institutional conceptions of contemporary art.
